Web29 Nov 2024 · Discovered by John Bruce of Sumburgh in 1897, after a violent storm, it was protected as an ancient monument from 1925 and was excavated by John Hamilton, Inspector of Ancient Monuments, between 1949 and 1952. Today, a visitor centre and good signposting help visitors get to grips with all that the site has to offer.
